Every Dubai kid must have eaten at least once at this place, which is often known as the oldest Chinese restaurant in Dubai. Even if you’re not a Dubai kid, chances are you’ve heard praises of this restaurant and tried it once or at least been inclined to. I’m talking about none other than Golden Dragon

I’ve known this place since the time it was located somewhere in Karama, and there’s so much nostalgia attached to this place, more often than not it’s about the memories rather than the food while dining here.

But that certainly does not mean the food is any less. Serving some of the most delicious variety of Chinese, Thai, Indonesian and Malay food, Golden Dragon offers comfortable dining with a welcoming ambience at highly affordable prices. The restaurant is huge and located at a prime spot in  Oud Metha which is impossible to miss.

I know I will keep going back to this place as often as I can, but if you haven’t tried it yet then I highly recommend you give it a go.
We tried the chili lemon soup and dragon chicken for starters, chicken in chili basil sauce along with Thai lemongrass rice for mains and Nutella wontons for dessert. I loved everything we tried but the soup and dessert really won my heart.

If this oldest Chinese restaurant in Dubai is still around, then it is definitely for a reason. That reason is good food. With simple, no fuss, delicious dishes, this is one that you will want to keep going back to.

I have always always been a fan of Asian one-box meals. The fact that you can pick your favorite ingredients, combine them all together and enjoy the food as per your convenience makes it a go-to choice. One such place we came across a few days ago is iWok. Located in Dubai Marina with gorgeous views of the bay, the tiny restaurant is fueled mainly by takeaways and deliveries. They are available on all leading delivery apps so no matter which one you pick, you’ll find iWok there. They have a couple of regular tables too, and a few bar stool seating options, so if you’re in for a quick lunch with water views, it isn’t a bad idea to stop by. It was quite cold on the day we visited, so we chose to sit indoors, but it would make a good choice to just pack your box and sit outdoors on one of the benches, especially while the temperatures are still low.

Since ours was a review, we were asked to follow a budget of AED 150 and to be honest, we were quite surprised with the amount of food we managed to try out within that spend limit. Since I love the “make your own” concept, I chose to give a twist to my usual order of chicken Thai green curry + jasmine rice by adding my favorite veggies to go in the mix – baby corn, shiitake mushrooms and broccoli. I also topped it with fried garlic and crushed peanuts for the flavor and crunch. The other box we tried was one of their signature dishes – Korean chilli chicken that came with egg noodles tossed in a spicy chilli sauce with peppers, carrots, cabbage and more. We also tried a veg Manchow soup that was served piping hot with crunchy noodles on the side, prawn spring rolls and a chocolate mud cake with ice cream. My favorite undoubtedly was the Thai green curry and rice. The noodles were not as spicy as I thought they would be, and the sauce had a slightly sweet taste to it. The soup was exceptionally good and perfect for the weather. The spring rolls and dessert were fair. What I loved the most about the place is their concept of making food from scratch, right in front of you. Watching them cook all the dishes with their wok skills reassures you of the freshness and hygiene.

Given my love for Asian one-box food,  I would certainly love to go back and try some more mix and match combinations. The food is prepared made to order so it’s really fresh and hot and the meat used is of good quality, so not much they can go wrong with.

Micro plates, but macro flavor. This is what you’ll get at the newest dining addition at The Dubai Mall Fashion Avenue – Micro. Developed under the wing of the famous Malaysian brand Pappa Roti, Micro adds subtle fusion to Asian classics, and presents them in portions that are just right to keep you satisfied, at the same time leaving enough space to try another dish or two.

We decided to head over to The Dubai Mall on a Thursday evening (I know, so brave), and spotted Micro boldly flaunting it’s outdoor seating in the midst of the busy mall, but balanced with a neatly tucked in indoor space. I loved the minimalist, yet striking appeal of the restaurant, which combined beautifully to make their presence felt, but not in a subtle way. The location and outwardly appeal of the restaurant sure caught the attention of mall walkers and diners looking for options.

As soon as we were seated, we were greeted by restaurant manager Vishal, who gave us a little insight into his F&B experience, and explained the concept of the restaurant along with the kind of food they offer and their bestselling plates. Soon enough, we found ourselves confused between what to order and what to skip, because everything, and I repeat, EVERYTHING looked so tempting and totally worth a try. The good part though is their portions were not overwhelming, which allowed us to try a variety of dishes without feeling too full or worse guilty!

We went in with the recommendations from the staff and started our dinner with truffle and chicken dumplings, crispy shrimp salad, chicken karaage bao and shrimp tempura maki rolls. If you know me well, then you already know I lovvvved the dumplings for all that truffle. They were steamed and then lightly pan-fried bringing the best of both worlds, and more importantly, served over a layer of creamy truffle sauce. Yes, I licked the plate clean after eating 75% of the dumplings! The crispy shrimp salad was, simply put, Micro’s version of dynamite shrimps, but in no way were they just plain or simple. Tossed in a spicy tangy sauce, the shrimps were crispy on the outside and featured a succulent tender core making them absolutely blissful. My only recommendation here would be to eat these quick, because once they get cold and a little soggy, the experience might not be the same.

I don’t know why, but of late I’ve developed a new found love for chicken karaage. Whenever and wherever I see karaage on the menu, I know I want it on my plate. I could blame it on Neha’s (@astoryoffood) tempting stories about her own chicken karaage (which I haven’t got the pleasure of trying yet), but well, currently karaage is bae, and with the way it’s going, I am guessing it will stay that way for long. So then, when I saw the chicken karaage bun on the menu, I knew I had to have it. If you like baos and sliders and chicken, then you NEED TO TRY THIS. That melange of the soft bao and the crispy spicy karaage chicken was more perfect than any other chicken sandwich I could’ve asked for. The bao bun especially, was so soft, so thank God I had my lipstick transferred all over it with the first bite, so now I could safely excuse myself from sharing it with my plus one.

The maki rolls were brilliant. They had three options for maki rolls on the menu – one of which was raw fish and two which came with cooked meat – shrimp or chicken. We went with the cooked shrimp tempura rolls. I honestly love sushi that doesn’t taste too much like sushi – in the sense that it has a little of everything but no overpowering flavors. This one was just like that. I did my bit with the wasabi and happily enjoyed my share of 2 of the 4 maki rolls.

We paired our starters with a couple of mocktails from their list of 7 remarkable concoctions. Honestly, it’s sort of my goal now to try them all, but as for this visit we settled on Singapore Sunrise and Berries Hibiscus. While the former was a sweet, sour and sunny mix of passion fruit, oranges, mandarin and pineapple, the latter had mixed berries muddled with fresh mint, lemon and hibiscus.

Next up for the mains, we put our blind faith in the staff’s recommended plates and were beyond delighted with what was brought to our table. From the two mains we ordered, my favorite was the chicken laksa curry with jasmine rice. That combination was simply WOW. A mix of creamy, spicy, warm and comforting flavors, this Singaporean dish went just right with the rice, and if I wasn’t already full from all the starters we had, I would like finished it all by myself. My plus one was more than happy with our second main – char siu glazed short ribs. Very well done, the meat in these short ribs was fall off the bone tender and the glaze added so much drama in terms of flavor.

We were obviously not going to leave without dessert, but this time, for a change, we also decided to order some hot beverages to go with it. The dessert we chose was my first and obvious pick – non-sticky rice with mango sorbet. I ordered this one for it had coconut crumble as one of the main ingredients paired with vanilla bean rice and topped with a mango gelato. The rice tasted almost like a coconut and vanilla kheer – not too sweet, but supremely creamy, cool and refreshing.

Our hot drinks to go with the dessert included a pappa milk tea, which was very much like a normal milk tea, sans the strength of a karak; and a classic café latte which to my surprise came with a kitty latte art.

I’ll be going back to this restaurant soon to try their breakfast options, so keep an eye out for that.

Honestly, there is still so much left to try, and I know I will be going back soon. But from everything we tried, I highly recommend the chicken karaage bun, laksa curry, crispy shrimps, truffle chicken dumplings and their mocktails.

One of my top 3 favorite Thai restaurants in Dubai, Bambooda is a hidden gem of sorts. This 15+ year old restaurant is nestled in the fine Roda Al Bustan that’s located at a stone’s throw from the Dubai airport. Just wait till you step inside, and you will instantly be transported to a Thai island of sorts – one with waterfalls and rivers and fish swimming inside.

Bambooda thai roda al bustan

One of the very few restaurants in Dubai that showcase such a distinct interior, Bambooda stays true to its Thai roots in extending a relaxing, close to nature, dim lit ambiance that makes the perfect setting for a romantic or intimate dinner.

Prawn Crackers

In the typical Thai fashion, we start with prawn crackers that are served with a chilli oil dip. Vegetarians need not despair, for they have the option of rice crackers too. Also if you fidn yourself finishing them up in a jiffy, just ask for another helping, and the staff will be happy to replenish the crackers.

Bambooda thai roda al bustan

Som Tam Papaya Salad

I have always been a fan of this Thai favorite. The papaya strips add a tangy flavor to the mix, which combined with shrimps, lime and peanuts offers a very unique taste.

Bambooda thai roda al bustan

Tom Kha Gai

Among my regular orders at any Thai restaurant is this chicken coconut soup. But this one at Bambooda came with certain ingredients which I’ve never come across in any other version of this soup. Warm and very comforting, this broth came with chillies, gallangal, kaffir lime leaves and shimeji mushrooms.

Bambooda thai roda al bustan

Thai King Prawns

There’s something about tempura fried prawns that makes them so irresistible. These king prawns coated with sesame seeds had just the right mix of crispy and juicy textured. Must have!

Bambooda thai roda al bustan

Kaeng Kiew Wan Gai

Always on my list! The most classic Thai dish, and the most authentic item on their menu, this Thai green curry with chicken was a dream. Since all the dishes at Bambooda are prepared fresh, we had the liberty to adjust the spice levels to a little over medium spicy. Make sure you order this with a portion of jasmine rice and you won’t regret. This, honestly, is what comfort food tastes like!

Bambooda thai roda al bustan

Pad Thai Noodles

Another must have at any Thai restaurant, we customized this version of Pad Thai noodles with chicken instead of shrimps. The juicy chicken and wok fried noodles mingle so well with each other, it makes the perfect combination. I loved the side servings of crushed peanuts and Thai chilli powder with this dish.

Bambooda thai roda al bustan

Mo Kaeng Cha Thai Creme Brulee

This one was definitely the star! Being a coconut lover and not ordering the usual coconut based dessert at a Thai restaurant was a tough choice for me. But this recommendation from Uneeb served right. Not your usual creme brulee, this one has a red Thai tea pudding covered with a brulee top and garnished with sesame tuile. The milk tea offers a very creamy texture and a soothing, not too sweet flavor.

There aren’t many restaurants like this one in Dubai. This is probably one of the most beautiful restaurants to dine at in D-town. The setting, the ambiance, the food, the drinks and the service – everything goes over and beyond expectations. I highly recommend their Thai Green Curry with Jasmine Rice and Pad Thai noodles, and most importantly the creme brulee. The portions were so good! And it’s not just these couple of dishes, but in fact all the dishes were fabulous and I can’t wait to go back and try more from their menu.

Over the weekend, we decided to stop by at Dubai Internet City and make the most of the outdoor season sitting by their lake. And we obviously felt hungry in a bit, so we walked into Wok Boyz for some Asian Street Food.

wok boyz dubai internet city

I’ve always loved the concept of “make your own wok”, so this was something I was definitely looking forward to. Wok Boyz offers a compact 2 page menu which lets you choose from your preferred base, protein, veggies, sauce and toppings. They also have some signature appetizers and their best-selling coconut water to cool down the heat.

Vegetable Spring Rolls – Crispy and filling, these are great as starters or when you really want something to munch on.

wok boyz dubai internet city

Spicy Korean Wings – A little messy, especially when you are eating with hand, the sauce in these Korean wings is to die for. Spicy, yes, but still finger licking awesome, these are a must have.

wok boyz dubai internet city

Prawn Tempura – Classic in every way, this is my comfort food. If you love prawns, then definitely order these and you won’t be disappointed.

wok boyz dubai internet city

Coconut Water – I have always had an affinity for coconut water from the subcontinent more than that of South-East Asia. Although a little too sweet for me, if you like Thai coconut water, then go for this one.

wok boyz dubai internet city

Wok 1

Our first wok was Jasmine rice with Chicken Thai Green Curry. I can never not order Thai green curry if I see it on a menu. And especially when it comes to making your own woks, I love both the freshness and the quantity. And also the fact that I can just grab my box and dig into it at my own pace. I opted for the classic jasmine rice that pairs just right with the curry and added a bunch of vegetables and toppings. The curry was absolutely fab. Done just right in terms of flavor and texture, it had a hint of spiciness and a lovely coconutty taste to it.

wok boyz dubai internet city

Wok 2

For our second wok, we tried Egg noodles with Prawns and Indonesian Heat sauce. I have constantly been craving the spicy Indonesian sauce ever since my trip to Bali in 2016. So when I see Indonesian sauce on the menu, I have to try it, just to see if it matches the same taste. Well, although this didn’t replicate the taste of what I had back in Bali, it was quite good nonetheless. The prawns were really fresh and when combined with the spicy sambal, they gave a lovely flavor, which was neither too hot, nor too salty. I liked the combination of egg noodles with this sauce, but I am guessing rice would be a better option.

Mention “Make Your Own Wok” and I am instantly game. I loved the sheer choice of protein, veggies and carbs that Wok Boyz offered. Don’t forget to try out their Spicy Korean Wings – they are a must have!

What’s your wok style? I’m a big fan of build-your-own woks. So when I heard about Wok & Wrap located at Jumeirah Lake Towers, I was all excited to give them a go! This small and cozy restaurant is lined with graffiti wall decor adding a touch of modern funky appeal to their interiors. The open kitchen with a very convenient wok area lets you watch all the action while your dish is getting prepared.

As soon as we placed our order, we were offered some prawn crackers to munch on while we waited for our dishes to arrive. While I am not a big fan of prawn crackers, especially if they smell too much, I liked these, mainly because of the chili sauce they were served with on the side.

Our Wok Selection

Very simple and straightforward, their customized menu asks you to choose a base, a sauce and a protein from an extensive list. The prices vary based on your choice of protein, plus additions if any. (P.S. you can taste the sauces before you decide on your favorite)

We were a little biased with their extremely delicious coconut curry sauce and highly recommended egg noodles, so we went with two of these, one with prawns and the other with chicken. Being fair to the rest of their variety, we opted for a third szechuan sauce with white rice and chicken. All these wok options can be upgraded to a combo for a nominal charge and we went all out with added spring rolls and dimsums.

In terms of taste, the coconut curry sauce was fab. It is certainly a must have, and we’re probably going to try it with rice the next time around. The egg noodles, nevertheless, were absolutely brilliant. We preferred their prawns over chicken. For sides, we loved the spring rolls – so crunchy – although the dimsums were passable.

n the downside, I felt they added too much of green beans in all our woks. They could possibly do away with some.

What we ordered was their small portion (will you believe?!!) and despite it being small, 3 of us couldn’t finish each of our share. The bigger portion would be great as a dinner for two, if that’s the only thing you’re having.

Shrimps & Chips

We of course filled ourselves up with their new menu items as well. These shrimps and chips were Wok & Wrap’s take on the famous English Fish n Chips. And all my love goes to this new introduction. Being a shrimp lover, I was a little skeptical at first. But the shrimps were so crunchy, without any fishy smell or uncooked bits – they turned out perfecto! Moreover, the wedges were bliss, and so was the cocktail sauce on the side.

Sushi

Also a part of the new menu that Wok & Wrap will be rolling out soon, we tested three different sushi varieties.

The first one Special Salmon Roll was a cucumber roll topped with salmon skin and tobiko. I give a 3/5 to this simply because I don’t like eating raw salmon or tobiko. I would have preferred it without the salmon skin. But for hardcore sushi lovers who are comfortable with all the ingredients that go into sushi, this one would be quite good.

The next one California Maki Roll was quite different from what I have tried till date, especially because of its strawberry topping. While I loved the coleslaw rolled up inside, I was not very fond of the tobiko coating. I would give this a 3.5/5

The last one Shrimp Tempura Roll, was (for obvious reasons) my favorite. I loved the tempura fried seaweed as well as the fried shrimp topping. It was perfect in every bite. 4/5 for this one!

Without a doubt, I would highly recommend, you get your own customized wok at Wok & Wrap. If you are ordering at the restaurant (instead of a home delivery), you get the option to try out the sauces before you can choose your preferred one. Also, the combo deal at this place is quite affordable, so add that AED 8 to your wok and get a couple of spring rolls or dim sums and a soft drink to go with your wok.

I love Thai food. Everything about this cuisine makes me so happy. And believe it or not, almost all the Thai restaurants I have been to are the most romantic ones in Dubai, which makes them just right for a date night. Thai food combines all my favorite ingredients in all my favorite dishes – from coconut milk and spicy chillies in curries, to lemon and peanut in Pad Thai and chicken skewers, and of course their tender coconut ice cream, which is always a winner. When I came across the Curry on and Sing(ha) Night at the much loved Sukhothai in Le Meridien, I immediately put on my date dress and tagged my arm candy along to the restaurant to dive into the curry love.

sukhothai curry night le meridien

Sukhothai, located in one of the oldest hotels in Dubai – Le Meridien – offers a conventional Thai feel right from the minute you step in. Adorned with wooden aesthetics and featuring a central courtyard with a soothing Thai dance performance, this restaurant falls perfectly in line with the likes of Benjarong, Pai Thai, or the next door Bambooda.

sukhothai curry night le meridiensukhothai curry night le meridien

sukhothai curry night le meridien

Prawn Crackers

To start with, we were served a complimentary portion of Prawn Crackers along with a selection of 4 spicy chili based sauces. With so many sauces to choose from, I wished they would have offered some more crackers!

sukhothai curry night le meridien

Cocktails

For drinks, I kept it simple and fruity with a Sex on the Beach cocktail for myself, and my date followed suit with a Mai Tai. As a part of the Curry Night, you can enjoy a 25% discount on Singha Beer.

sukhothai curry night le meridien

Curry & Rice

Going along with the chef’s suggestions, my date ordered one Creamy Red Chicken Curry with steamed jasmine rice, while I went with my beloved Green Chicken Curry with coconut rice.

sukhothai curry night le meridien

The Phanaeng Gai Rue Nuea is a creamy red sauce based curry that is available in a choice of beef or chicken. Hot and spicy, this curry was flavored with sweet basil and kaffir lime leaves, and topped with sliced red chili and coriander.

The Gaeng Khiao Warn Gai Rue Nuea is the green counterpart of the former curry which is also available in a choice of beef or chicken. Cooked with coconut palm heart and Thai baby eggplants, this spicy broth is enhanced with flavors of sweet basil.

Although I loved the red curry, my all-time favorite was and will always be the green curry. It has a different taste and spiciness that I can just never resist. Both curries had a creamy texture to them, with the red curry being slightly creamier. Apart from these two, you can also opt for the regular red curry with chicken or beef, sweet roasted duck curry with pineapple and grapes, or the Massaman curry with braised beef short ribs.

Either of the rice varieties pair perfectly with any curry you choose, although I found the coconut rice slightly sweeter and dense than jasmine rice.

Dessert

For desserts, we were served the famous Thai water chestnut dessert with coconut milk.

sukhothai curry night le meridien

The Tab Tim Grob, although not as great as the tender coconut ice cream, did fare well in my books, thanks to its coconut milk base. The water chestnuts, in all their glossy glory, were perfect – crispy and smooth at the same time. If you haven’t tried this dessert yet, then definitely make it a point to order it at your next Thai rendezvous.

Priced at AED 109 per person, the theme night is available from Saturdays to Wednesdays and will run every week until 31st August.

While the price at AED 109 is absolutely great for a fine dining restaurant like Sukhothai, I would highly recommend they up their summer game with a variance in their set menu that adds a soup or starter for a few more Dirhams. Also, a choice of tender coconut ice cream in addition to the water chestnut dessert would make it just perfect.
DON’T leave without trying their green curry. It’s my favorite Thai dish, so I am very particular about the taste, and Sukhothai didn’t disappoint one bit.
In terms of ambiance, although very romantic, the place seemed slightly cramped up. I guess a little more spaced out seating should work just fine.

Have you tried out the newest wow place in town – Bao Wow? Specializing in bao (of course) and lots of Thai street delicacies, this City Walk eatery is colorful, spacious and a whole lot of fun.

Read on to find out what we tried and what I loved the most >

Mixed Dimsums

From this selection of chicken gyoza, Peking duck and shu mai dumplings, the chicken ones were my favorite. Although more than the dimsums, it was the presentation that wowed us!

Bao wow city walk

Oh Bao!

Oh Bao! Quite creative in terms of name, these classic bao buns were filled with tender chilli beef and flavored with a mix of coriander and red chillies. Peanut crumble garnish gave it a very Thai finish.

Bao wow city walk

Prawn Tempura

These bao buns came with a large piece of fried prawn sandwiched within along with pickled onions, fresh cucumber and chilli bean mayo.

Bao wow city walk

Singapore noodles

Very street style, these ones were my second favorite. Right from the shrimps and chicken to the mixed veggies and flavors of curry and lime, everything about these noodles was perfect.

Bao wow city walk

Chicken Katsu

This was my ultimate favorite. The Katsu curry was creamy, chicken crispy and juicy, and the rice, just wow.

Bao wow city walk

Bao-ger

More than the black bun burgers, it was the typical Thai street styled presentation in a brown bag that made these so interesting. The wagyu beef was pretty good though. Worth a try.

Bao wow city walk

Dynamite roll

Anything that says dynamite and shrimp on the menu has to get on my plate. Although not the dynamite shrimps that you usually expect, these sushi rolls packed a punch along with a twist of avocado, habanero maybo and togarashi flavors.

Bao wow city walk

Coco Bang

Now here’s something quintessentially Thai street style. Right from the plastic bag packaging to the coriander and chilli infused passion fruit juice, this mocktail is a must have at Bao Wow. Don’t leave without trying this.

A great place for a quick bite, Bao Wow has a very welcoming vibe with gorgeously colorful interiors that imitate the streets of Thailand.
I highly recommend their Coco Bang mocktail, Bao-gers and Chicken Katsu curry.

Paired with the exquisites of a royal ambience, dim lighting and soothing music, Benjarong spells romantic from the minute you step in. I don’t know why, but I have somehow always associated romantic dinners to Thai cuisine. And honestly, two out of three times that I have been out on date nights of late, have been Thai restaurants, with the next one already on my wishlist.

benjarong dusit thani dubai

So let’s just say this: Benjarong lived up to my expectations of being an ideal spot to ignite that spark. Did I mention there were Thai strings being played while we dined? Yes. And the performer playing that instrument was oh so sweet. So were all their staff. Well, the Thai are known for their hospitality, and at Benjarong, they keep up to that level with their smiling faces and humble tones. I would make a special mention here about David, who assisted us with our food and drink choices throughout the evening, and made sure we were well taken care of. And look at that menu. Back home, it would almost be mistaken for a wedding album. So unique, so elite.

But that not all that this restaurant is known for. There’s the food too. One of the few gems of Dusit Thani Dubai, this restaurant has come up with an exclusive September Seafood menu – Cruisin’ with Crustaceans – that offers an immaculate selection of seafood dishes featuring the freshest crabs, lobsters, scallops, and mussels in Thai preparations.

Read on to find out what we tried and what we loved. Yes, there is something that I loved like none other ever, and you will read about that soon.

Tom Yum Gai Rue Goong

While it’s true that you can never go wrong with a Tom Yum soup, you will definitely be in the wrong if you go to a Thai restaurant and don’t order one of these.
Not a part of their Crustaceans menu, but a worthy seafood item nonetheless, we opted for the Prawn Tom Yum soup at Benjarong. First up, it’s important to know the Thai name of this dish. Although I might not be able to pronounce this if you were to ask me in person, the soup is traditionally called Tom Yum Gai Rue Goong. Apart from the juicy prawns that were the highlight of this spicy broth, it was souped up with mushrooms, lemongrass, lime juice and roasted chilli paste that gave it a slightly tangy, and mostly spicy flavor. But we love our tom yum with an exaggerated level of spiciness, which is why we got a little extra in terms of fresh chillies.

benjarong dusit thani dubai

This portion priced at AED 60 was good enough for two people.
Well, if I had an option, I wouldn’t bat an eyelid before deciding to have the entire portion myself. But I knew there was more Thai goodness coming my way, which is why I (reluctantly) agreed to share the soup with my date. Sshhh… don’t tell him though.

Som Pooma

I’m scared of crabs. There, I said it. Eating crabs, especially breaking and eating them is an art, one that I am not good at. Well, not yet. But Benjarong has put together such a lovely Cruisin’ with Crustaceans menu for September, it wouldn’t have been fair to not try anything from it.

benjarong dusit thani dubai

I was luckily given the liberty to try a mix of some bestsellers from their regular menu and anything I would like from the seafood menu, which is why I chose this papaya salad from the latter. I was slightly confused between crab and lobster. They both pose a challenge for me. But the crab seemed slightly humble, if I must.

benjarong dusit thani dubai

The Som Pooma came with tangy shredded green papaya mixed with crunchy peanuts, and topped with fried blue crab. The crab was a marvel. Although it took me a little while to observe the crustacean and figure out how to get the meat out, every second invested was worth it.
Plus that presentation made it all the more appealing. And that yellow pepper on the side with fresh veggie sticks was such a pretty sight.

Phad Thai

After the prawn Tom Yum and crab salad, we shifted slightly away from seafood and headed over to our beloved poultry – chicken. Another Thai essential – the Phad Thai noodles at Benjarong are deemed bestsellers. And I can vouch for that. The stir-fried rice noodles perfectly capture all the Thai flavors in their sauce that’s predominantly tamarind based and is dotted with tofu, bean sprouts and ground peanuts.

benjarong dusit thani dubai

What really takes the cake is the presentation. The pepper floral accent to the side and the netted garnish take this basic Thai speciality up a notch. How many Phad Thai lovers here?

Gaeng Phed & Khao Soey

Thai curry is a must, isn’t it? Honestly, I would eat it everyday if I had to. But unfortunately my home cooked Thai curry doesn’t live up to my taste expectations. Which is why I keep looking out for places like Benjarong to satisfy my curry cravings.
More often than not, you would have seen Thai Green Curry on my timeline. So this time we played things a little different and chose to try the Thai Red Curry. They aren’t different from each other at all, except for the color. While the former features red chillies in a dried form, the latter comes with red chilli paste that gives this curry its color.

benjarong dusit thani dubai

The Gaeng Phed, as it is called in Thai, is a rich coconut and chili based red curry with eggplants and sweet basil leaves. While the coconut milk lends a creamy consistency, the chili pieces give it that spicy flavor and makes this curry a proper must have.

benjarong dusit thani dubai

We ordered the red curry with chicken and a side of steamed Jasmine rice, also known as Khao Soey.

Kra-ti

I could wait all my life for one serving of this. Really. I mean it.
This is the most incredible, highly impressive and stunningly extra-ordinary coconut ice cream I’ve ever had. And my choice of words don’t even do half the justice it deserves.

benjarong dusit thani dubai

I really hope Benjarong welcomes diners who are only there for desserts, because I am definitely going back for this. And even if they want me to order something else, I will happily do so. All in return for this heavenly piece of absolute satisfaction at the end of the meal.
The extremely creamy and coconutty ice cream Kra-ti comes with roasted peanuts that balance the creaminess with their crunchy.

benjarong dusit thani dubai

Having spoken so much about this, I’m definitely going to get sweet coconut dreams tonight.
What’s your take on coconut ice cream? Love, hate or obsessed like me?

Have you Nom Nom’d yet? Well, you should. Because Nom Nom Asia offers a mixture of famous Asian cuisines – all in one place. Whether you choose Chinese, Thai or Indonesian, you will not be disappointed. We went there last Friday afternoon for a weekend lunch and the food was worth a second, no third, actually multiple visits!

nom nom asia barsha

We were welcomed with the classic prawn crackers, served with soy sauce, chilli vinegar and my favorite spicy red chilli sauce.

Taking pride in their non-MSG food items, the dishes at Nom Nom Asia are cooked fresh, served hot and don’t feel heavy at all. The meats are as crunchy as they need to be and as tender as you expect it. The sauces take you to the very heart of the Asian cities where the dishes originate from, and the dessert, well, you will have to read on to find out more about that.

Cranberry Lime Spritzer

Looks so refreshing, no? Not only is this something I’m craving right now, but this Cranberry Lime Spritzer is a great way to cool off the heat from those spicy items on the Nom Nom Asia menu.

nom nom asia barsha

Not that I’m complaining of the spiciness, but this drink was a real refresher with the blazing hot sun outside. The sweet tangy flavor of cranberry meets the sour kick of lime to create the perfect example of “opposites attract”. Try this one. It’s really good. In fact, it’s so good, you’ll probably want to order more than one.

Tom Kha

Soup. It’s the one thing that can solve everything. The only catch – it has to be as good as this Tom Kha from Nom Nom Asia.

nom nom asia barsha

One of my all-time favorites, this spicy Thai coconut broth came with all the classic ingredients you would expect from it. First, there was the coconut milk, which I love the most, and mushrooms, which play an essential role in soups. Then there were flavors of kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass, Thai chili peppers, and coriander – all which came together to lend a fragrant spicy appeal to this comforting soup. We chose chicken as a protein for this broth which added a filling aspect.

The portion was good for two to share and the price was quite feasible at only AED 25.

Pepper Chilli Chicken

At Nom Nom Asia, they are absolutely supportive of the kind of meats or veggies you prefer. Which is why most dishes come with varied options that pan across Veg, Tofu, Chicken, Beef, Lamb, Prawns, Fish, Seafood and Mix.

For appetizers we went with one of their recommended items – Pepper Chilli and paired it with Chicken. This was as spicy as I could have asked for. And good spicy at that. I loved how crispy the chicken was, and all that spring onion garnish on top. I would definitely want to try this with prawns and tofu as well.

nom nom asia barsha

Another famous appetizer is the Iceberg Lettuce Wrap which can be paired with your choice of filling from veggies and meat.

They also have prawn crackers, classic salt and pepper wings, as well as the well-known Thai prawns on toast. I am already planning multiple visits to try these out, but have you been there yet?

Sweet and Sour Prawns

What would be better for mains at an Asian restaurant than a lovely Chinese stir fry combined with Thai curry and Jasmine rice. And that’s just what we ordered. The variety of flavors and proteins for the stir fry was endless, so we opted for Sweet and Sour Prawns. These really did bring about a slightly sweet and slightly sour kick and some bits of spicy too, thanks to all those red chillies. The one thing I love about stir frys are the crunchy pepper pieces. And Nom Nom Asia did them perfect. This makes a good accompaniment to another main for two diners if you haven’t ordered any appetizers.

nom nom asia barsha

Gaeng Kiew Wan – Spicy Thai Green Curry

But there was more perfection to their game. This came in the form of Gaeng Kiew Wan – Spicy Thai Green Curry served with Jasmine rice. Green curry has always been one of my favorite items off a Thai menu and it was essential I tried that. Nom Nom didn’t disappoint me at all.

nom nom asia barsha

Right from the coconut milk soup and tender chicken pieces to the beans, kaffir lime, garlic flavor and spicy Thai green paste – everything was just right. The portion was good enough for two if you have already had an appetizer.

nom nom asia barsha

Fried Ice Cream

Fried Ice Cream. That’s right! This one is a real real gem. I’ll be honest. At first, I wasn’t too sure of ordering this and thought of going with the Coconut sticky rice instead, but this came highly recommended, so I said, why not? And I am glad I did.

Extremely chocolaty Nutella sauce garnished with almond slivers, houses a wonderful cakey coating, which in turn hides a sweet creamy scoop of Vanilla ice cream within.

nom nom asia barsha

This one comes highly recommended, not just from the team at Nom Nom Asia, but from the diners as well. Share it with a couple of friends, or have it on your own, but make sure you have this. This made my visit to Nom Nom Asia totally worth it!
