Indulging in Indian seafood coastal cuisine and loving it so much was something I had never known about myself. But the chefs at House of Curry totally got me smitten.\u00a0Last evening, House of Curry, located at The Beach, JBR, launched their all new seafood menu with a Coastal Curry Night.\u00a0As we move through this post, you will see how their dishes are inspired from different coastal regions of India, and also how lovely and colorful they are.<\/p>\n

But first, let’s take a quick look at the picturesque interiors of the restaurant.<\/p>\n

Flaunting the vibes of a modern day haveli (palace), the interiors at House of Curry make you fall in love with this place as soon as you enter, even before you fall in love with their food.<\/p>\n

Two rustic broad trunk trees adorn the center of the restaurant giving it a very courtyard look. Then there’s the chandeliers that look like they have just been transported from a king’s palace. And don’t miss their Queen Mona Lisa. Famed as the most Instagram worthy spot at House of Curry, the wall features a display of traditional and antique windows from the heart of Rajasthan along with an Indian-ized Mona Lisa painting that gives her the look of a Maharani.<\/p>\n

At the Coastal Curry Night in The House of Curry, we were treated to some delicious and freshly prepared seafood goodness.<\/p>\n

We started off with the shimmery golden fried lady finger fish that had a crispy skin and melt-in-your-mouth meat, flavored with mild spices. The little fish tikka came next beautifully basted with spices and as tender as could be.<\/p>\n

I had never actually eaten crab from its shell before and this was my first time. We were given crab crackers and picks along with gloves so I managed quite well. It took some time but all that effort was worth it. The Tandoori crab, in its spicy marinade, was cooked to perfection. And the crab meat was simply delicious.<\/p>\n

Now if you know me well enough and have been following my blog, you know I’m crazy about prawns. And these mini Prawns Koliwada took the cake. The Indian counterpart of popcorn shrimp, these little nuggets were marinated in koliwada spices that originate from the coastal regions of Maharashtra and Goa. So crispy, these would make a great choice as finger food or something to munch on while you wait for the mains.

There’s something so deliciously humble about the curries at House of Curry. Since we were there to attend their Coastal Curry Night, we were offered three of their most creative seafood curries along with a portion of rice and a basket of naan bread.<\/p>\n

The Prawns Moilee is a Kerala styled coconut based curry featuring juicy prawns cooked in coconut milk powder with onions and tempered mustard.<\/p>\n

The Green Fish Curry, again coconut based prepared with a Bengali touch. It is flavored with mint, coriander and a very out of the box celery which gave it a slightly tangy taste.<\/p>\n

\nThe Goan Prawns Curry, obviously inspired from the wonderful coasts of Goa, features fresh prawns in yet another coconut based broth, spiced with aromatic coriander seeds and Indian masalas.<\/p>\n

I loved all three mainly because of their fragrant and rich coconut base. Try out either or all. I bet you won’t be disappointed.<\/p>\n

What could be sweeter than ending the Coastal Curry Night with this crunchy Indian classic. What I liked most about this Jalebi was that it wasn’t very sweet, wasn’t drenched in sugar syrup and was so light and crispy, it just melted in my mouth. Plus, the almond and pistachio garnish gave it a nutty touch.
