Sizzling Lebanese Food at Kababji Grill
Lebanese food. There’s just something about this cuisine that makes me so happy. From the creamy hommos and fresh salads to the crunchy kibbeh and tender grills, they not only satiate your appetite, but leave you with a smile. This is everything we had at the Kababji Grill in Business Bay.
An express version of the restaurant, this outlet is nestled in a quiet spot at the Bay Avenue complex and features compact indoor dining (think high chairs), and lots of outdoor seating too.
Given the winds and rains in Dubai tonight, we opted for the cozy dining option and needless to say, we were treated to the best of Lebanese variety.
Read on to find out the details on all of these, but after you are done drooling over the platter.
Laban Ayran
Creamy goodness in a glass! This Laban Ayran at Kababji Grill is a creamy curd blend with a predominantly salty flavor making it a good digestion aid to go along with all the meaty grills.
Deliciously fresh, these classic salads at Kababji Grill are made using the finest flavorful ingredients and come in a choice of half or full portion. We tried the half portions, but trust me, they were massive.
Tabbouleh
The famous Tabbouleh featuring fresh parsley, tomatoes and onions tossed with cracked wheat and drizzled with lemon juice and virgin olive oil. It is served along with cabbage and lettuce leaves to scoop up the salad.
Fattouch
My personal favorite Fattouch which comes with rocca and lettuce leaves, mixed with tomatoes and cucumbers and drizzled with lemon juice and virgin olive oil. This salad is special to me for its garlicky flavor which is combined with pomegranate syrup giving it a strong and sweet taste. And of course, the crunchy khubz that top the fresh ingredients.
Kababji Pizzette
Another specialty at Kababji Grill is their spicy Kababji Pizzette. It starts with a crusty homemade dough base which is topped with a spicy mixture of seasoned meat, pomegranate syrup, house blend spices, tomatoes, chili flakes and lots of cheese.
This pizza was so comforting, it was just right for the chilly outdoors. This was one of my favorites at Kababji. Highly recommended!
Hommos
You can’t go to a Lebanese restaurant and not have Hommos. We not only enjoyed this classic but also went ahead and tried the Lebanese version of the Indian Baingan bharta – Moutabal Eggplant.
The hommos at its classic best was a chickpea paste blended with tahini, topped with some whole boiled chickpeas and drizzled with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and olive oil.
Moutabal
The Moutabal had charcoal grilled eggplant as its main ingredient which was mashed with tahini and lemon juice and virgin olive oil.
hese dips were served along with hot off the oven, freshly baked bread. Sticking to their healthy lifestyle promise, Kababji these warm breads in both white and brown options. So if you’re looking for something light, ask them for the brown bread and you can enjoy the healthy hommos and Moutabal with healthy carbs!
Three different appetizers at Kababji Grill that were all designed to impress. One of these turned out to be my absolute favorite, which I’m definitely going back for.
Fried Stuffed Kebbeh & Cheese Rkakat
The left Fried Stuffed Kebbeh came filled with a mixture of cracked wheat, walnuts and sauteed ground meat, flavored with onions and a blend of Lebanese spices. Crunchy and juicy in every bite, these have always been a Lebanese staple.
The right Cheese Rkakat was more like a cheese spring roll. It was stuffed with a special mix of cheese herbs and spices and rolled in a thin homemade pastry dough. These were fried, but you can also order them grilled.
Batata w Kezbara
The bottom Batata w Kezbara was my ultimate favorite. This was such a humble preparation of fried potato cubes, but what made it really special was the coriander, herbs and spice mix. And the drizzle of olive oil gave it a lovely finishing touch.
Mixed Grill
Just like the hommos, kabab grills too are a must have at Lebanese restaurants. Obviously, we were too stuffed to order an individual portion of different charcoal grills. So we just opted for the Mixed Grill at Kababji.
This came with a massive portion of meat kabab halabi, chicken shish taouk and grilled veal fillet. This was accompanied by parsley tomato pita, potato cubes and a very creamilicious garlic sauce. My favorite on the plate was the garlic sauce! Haha, but really each type of grill had its own junique texture, tenderness and flavor. It wouldn’t be fair to call one better than the other. You just have to try this out!
Tamrieh
To end our Lebanese meal at Kababji Grill, we tried out something sweet. This Lebanese specialty Tamrieh, which comes across as a sweet sambousa features a filling of semolina, sugar and water. Covered in a flour based pastry, it is deep fried and dusted with sugar.
This makes a good choice for something that’s light and sweet.
