The Vintage Room – for a 60’s appeal

Last night we decided to try out the newest spot in town for Iftar. The Vintage Room located in Century Plaza Jumeirah, sticks to its name in terms of ambience and interiors. The minute you step in, it feels like you have been transported to a 60’s ballroom party, all attributed to golden chain accents, printed sofa seats, velvet covered chairs, glossy table cloths and impeccable service. They even have a grand piano in their restaurant and you will be able to catch a piano performance by one of their very own staff members after Ramadan.

While their Iftar menu focuses mainly on Indian cuisine, barring one pasta, the restaurant otherwise flaunts a lovely mix of Indian and Italian specialties. This means you can enjoy a biryani alongside a pizza, both authentic in their own right.

Check out the water brand they have partnered with. Perfect to replenish your body after a day long fast, Monviso Water, with its low sodium content, is the ideal choice of hydration.

Drinks & Dates

Breaking a fast is something really special and The Vintage Room does it right.

Fresh orange or watermelon juice is presented along with dates and cut fruits that not only add a lot of water and nutrition to your dehydrated body, but also stay light on your stomach so you don’t feel bloated or stuffed just after the fast.

We also tried their Spicy Pomme which was a refreshingly spicy and fizzy blend of green apple, green chillies and ginger ale.

Cheese Fatayer

The starters from the Iftar menu at The Vintage Room don’t fail to impress.

Adding a very subtle Middle Eastern touch to the experience, we start off with Cheese Fatayer. Crunchy pastry stuffed with creamy cheese mix makes a wonderful satisfying appetizer.

Murgh Malai Tikka

This is followed by the classic Mughlai Murgh Malai Tikka. These were my favorite off the starters, because of two main things – the taste of marinade and the tenderness of meat. The garlicky cheesy flavor that coats the perfectly cooked juicy chicken is a total treat for chicken tikka lovers.

Dahi ke kebab

Next we try out the not so conventional Dahi ke kebab. While the filling in these is quite close to the tempered yogurt served along with Indian rice and curries, the crunchy crumbed patty is what sets it apart.

Chicken Tikka Masala

The mains from the Iftar menu at The Vintage Room highlight Indian Mughlai cuisine at its best.

The spicy chicken tikka masala served along with buttered naan features melt-in-your-mouth chicken pieces.

Lamb Biryani

Following this beautiful gravy is the fragrant and utterly classic Lamb Biryani, enriched with tender mutton and topped with crunchy onions and cashews. This one is paired with a Burhani raita, which is dotted with burnt garlic pieces.

Pesto Tagliatelle

But there is a little Italian twist on their choice of mains. You can also opt for the Pesto Tagliatelle which comes tossed in the creamiest pesto sauce.

Dessert Platter

These were the lovely desserts we ended our Iftar with at The Vintage Room. Although the Iftar menu offers only Seviyaan, we were glad to have been presented with this mixed dessert platter that came with their bestsellers.

The red velvet kulfi, a combination that I had never come across before this, is essentially a dry fruit kulfi with lots of red velvet crumble garnish. The red velvet does add a cakey flavor.

The mini gulab jamuns were such a delight. Not too sweet, just how I like them, these little jamuns had a doughy dense centre which made them all the more delicious. I wouldn’t mind having more of these!

Seviyaan, the classic Iftar dessert, came with a creamy mix of vermicelli in thickened milk with dry fruit garnish.

And my all time fave, Ras Malai was the winner of the platter. Absolutely creamy and flanked beautifully with saffron, the rabri had the perfect consistency – not too thin, and not too thick. The scrumptious Ras Malai dough inside was like a cloud.

Despite being a little heavy, I could really not have said no to more. After all favorites are favorites for a reason.
