Japanese meets American at Volt Kitchen - Rashida Blogs

Japanese meets American at Volt Kitchen

After having heard so much about this place, it was high time we gave Volt Kitchen a try. Located in Jumeirah 3, this restaurant stands out amidst tough competition with its unique offerings and fairly affordable prices. It’s dim-lit interiors and greenhouse glass box semi-outdoor seating set it apart from the crowd, while lending the eatery a very chic suburban look.

A hit among young locals, Volt Kitchen presents a menu that has something for everyone. Taking cue from Japanese-Asian cuisine, and mixing it with American favorites, this fancy diner’s got everything from crispy starters, dumplings and sushi to loaded fries and sliders. Don’t miss their steaks, refreshing drinks and an extensive list of indulgent desserts.

Read on for photos and reviews of everything we tried.

Mocktails

Black lemonade anyone? This unique concoction at Volt Kitchen is quite a bestseller, possibly for its on-trend black color. The taste is strong, slightly lemony, and not as sour as you would expect a lemonade to be. I kind of missed that lemony essence, but this was a refreshing surprise.

The drink in the background is the Mango Passion juice, which quite honestly, was my favorite of the two. A very simple, no-nonsense blend of mango and passion fruit juices, this is something I could place my bets on at any restaurant anywhere in Dubai (or beyond).

Other crowd favorites on their menu are their fruity mojitos which include the likes of passion fruit, strawberry and mixed berries. Which one would you try?

Spicy Chicken

Who’s up for some Spicy Chicken? Finishing off close to its Dynamite cousin counterpart, this Asian inspired appetizer at Volt Kitchen is not as spicy as you would expect. The chicken strips are tender, no doubt, and paired with the crispy noodle base, they bring about the perfect crunch in every bite. Although you might find a few green chilies in there, the sesame studded sauce has more of a sweet chili thing going on than actual hot peppers. And the scallion garnish tastes as beautiful as it looks.

This dish was good for a chicken starter, but next time I’d rather go for their bestselling Dynamite Shrimps.
P.S. This is the only restaurant so far in my life, which had dynamite shrimps on their menu but I didn’t give them a try.

Volcano Special

I must be honest, when I saw this dish for the first time, I kept wondering to myself what kind of sushi this was. I couldn’t really see the sushi rolls anywhere. But only once the tempura flakes began to give way, did they manage to reveal those nuggets of goodness hiding underneath.

This isn’t your regular sushi presented on a platter, it is a Volcano Special. And well, it lives up to its “special” name. Because for one, I am not a sushi fan, but my love for prawns is definitely much more than my non-preference for sushi. And for two, what I lost by not ordering the dynamite shrimps, I gained through these sushi rolls.

Presented stacked up like a volcano, these sushi rolls at Volt Kitchen come with a tempura prawn stuffing and are hidden under a heap of tempura flakes, topped with the sushi dynamite “lava lookalike” sauce. They are spicy alright, and crunchy and creamy all at the same time, which makes them a total must have. And even if you don’t like sushi so much, but like your prawns done right, then these definitely deserve a try.

Rainbow Fries

What’s there to hate about fries? Let me tell you: Nothing. And specially when they are loaded, they become all the more desirable.

These Rainbow Fries at Volt Kitchen start with fresh and crispy potato fries loaded with FOUR different types of cheese varieties, further topped with fried onion and jalapeno bits, and finished off with a generous drizzle of their special house sauce. Every calorie filled bite is worth all those little mushy bits of fat around your waist. But hey, don’t forget to sweat it out so you can come back for some more?
What’s your take on fries? Love ’em or hate ’em?

Sliders

Can you ever say no to sliders? I know I cannot. So to make the most of it, I requested Volt Kitchen to give me a mix of two of their best-selling sliders – classic beef and grilled chicken.
All their sliders come with a choice of two portions for just AED 44 (excluding lobster slider).

Both of these were top notch – whether it was the cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion studded beef patty; or cheese, lettuce, mushroom and creamy Alfredo sauce laden grilled chicken. And I would absolutely love if they have would add big burger portions of these sliders to their menu.

Apart from these two choices they also have crunchy chicken with honey mustard & pepper sauce, and grilled shrimp with tomato and lime mix.
I’m definitely trying these two on my next visit. Which ones would you order?

Chocolate Bomb

This was one incredible dessert at Volt Kitchen.

The Chocolate Bomb, which is totally bomb, had a milk chocolate sphere filled with vanilla ice cream, chocolate fudge, berries and a whole lot of goodness. Those brownie pieces around the sphere were to die for! The fun part, obviously, was watching the sphere melt away with a gentle pour of hot chocolate sauce.

Absolute indulgence, this is their best-selling dessert and for good reason. If you’re a chocolate fan, then this has to be on your must try list.
