Poolside couldn’t get any better than Coco on 8

Over the long weekend, I discovered a secret getaway right in the center of one of the most busiest commercial areas in Dubai. If you’ve gone through my last post, you would know that place is located in Media One Hotel. And if you’re a regular follower of my Instagram stories, then you should know this place is Coco on 8.

Located on the 8th floor of the towering Media One Hotel, the vibes of this poolside lounge & cafe instantly work wonders at taking all that stress off, no matter which day of the week or what time of the day you get there at. So much so, that even if the temperatures cranked up a bit, the white decor and tall palms coupled with the crystal blue pool and the tropical feel of this outdoor restaurant would definitely soothe you in no time. And then of course, there’s a smart, no-frills food and drinks menu, which is just right to go alongside your “swim in the blue or soak up the sun” plans.

As for me, I can’t wait to visit Coco on 8 again, albeit this time with my swimwear and some time-off midweek. Read on for more on the food and drinks from this gorgeous place.

I’m in Love with the Coco

No, I am not telling you that. It’s what this drink is called! A frothy mix of rich coconut cream, vanilla bitters and Malibu with cocoa dusted on top, this Coco’s Own cocktail at Coco on 8 was quite the stylish one. It had a bittersweet taste to it, followed by the nutty texture of coconut cream, and the light flavors of vanilla which made every sip a discovery.

And if you know me well, you also know that my heart beats for everything coconut, so this drink was one of my favorites. Why do I say ‘one of my favorites’? Because the next one was equally appealing. Watch this space to find out.

Ocean Drive

Since my love for coconut knows no bounds, and Coco on 8 had a lot of options that tickled my fantasy, I didn’t think twice before ordering this “Absolut”ly coconutty cooler.

The Ocean Drive combines an interesting blend of peach, coconut water and cranberry juice. To me, it was like an island in a glass. And look at those pretty layers. Doesn’t it make you want to dive right in? Pun intended 😉

Club Wrap

We all know what Club sandwiches are, but have you come across a Club wrap? You will find that at Coco on 8. Stuffed with lime chicken, cheese and eggs, this juicy and fresh wrap comes across a simple, albeit amazing sandwich option to go with your pool vibes.

Keeping things a little light, it is served with a generous portion of sweet potato fries (instead of the regular ones), and a small side of Coco Tabouleh. Allow me to let you in on a secret here. One of their signature salads, the Coco Tabouleh comes with bits and pieces of tender coconut, which offers quite a refreshing twist to the normal tabouleh. And although this was just a side portion, if you opt for the full serving of the salad, it comes with chicken as well.

Black Tiger Prawns Skewers

Prawns are the best things from the sea. Don’t y’all agree to that? I absolutely do. Which is why I always try to order something that has prawns at every restaurant. And if it’s one of their bestsellers, then it gets even better. One such bestseller are these Black Tiger Prawns Skewers at Coco on 8.

Beautifully grilled to a pink perfection, these lemony prawns are skewered, garnished with cherry tomatoes and chili swirls, and served with a coco lime dip. This is one of those appetizers you wouldn’t want to share, so order accordingly 😉

Beef Chorizo and Salami Flatbread

What do I love the most about flatbreads? The very fact that they are almost pizzas but not so fat. Flatbreads are those pizzas that sweat it out in the gym all year to get a slim physique, but keep up with their cheese and pepperoni indulgence.

Perfect for those who hate well defined crusts, but still want their dose of cheesy meaty goodness, the flatbreads at Coco on 8 pack quite a punch. While they offer five different options including two veggie ones, since we already had our share of chicken and prawns, we decided to try the Beef Chorizo and Salami flatbread. This got over in a snap, really. It’s just right for a quick bite.

What do you like (or hate) the most about flatbreads? Tell me in the comments below.

Rich Chocolate Mousse

Isn’t that one pretty mousse? This time around, it wasn’t the coco in coconut, but rather the cocoa of chocolate that took the cake (yes, it’s a pun).

Decadent with dense chocolate cream within, this Rich Chocolate Mousse stood up to its name. There were some mangoes and some strawberries, filling in the tropical gap (which is very prevalent in the rest of their menu), but in the end, it was the smooth chocolate that won my heart. This one is bliss. Don’t leave Coco on 8 without trying this.
