Capture the Downtown skyline over drinks & more at View by Dusit Thani

This newly opened lounge cafe has been making quite the rounds amidst Dubai nightlife aficionados, so we realized it was time to give this place a try. View by Dusit, as the name suggests is one of the new concepts offered by Dusit Thani Dubai. After looking at so many pictures on social media, I already knew this was an open air lounge, but thanks to its name, Ifirst thought it would be located on one of the higher floors. To our surprise, View was located right behind Jones The Grocer on the ground floor of the hotel. In fact, the way to View goes through Jones, and the food menu at the restaurant is also sourced from the very restaurant.

Offering unparalled views of Burj Khalifa and the Downtown skyline, View opens at 4 pm in the evening, and runs until late. It is a great choice for shisha, drinks and good food – basically, an all round experience. Read on to find out more about this new hot spot and what you should be ordering there!

If you know me personally and have helped me compose my shots, you would have seen me work on numerous flatlays. Well to be honest a flatlay, correction, a perfect flatlay is every blogger and photographer’s dream come true. I wouldn’t call mine perfect, but when the right light meets the right subject, flatlays just happen effortlessly.

Taking pictures in natural light is quite difficult for me since most of my food reviews take place at dinner time and there are very limited places I can brunch at on weekends. This is one of the main reasons I chose to visit the newly opened View by Dusit just after its opening time at 4 pm, to get the most out of those ‘still quite bright’ pre-sunset hours. Here’s a quick sneak peek into everything we tried at View.

Shisha

If you’re a Shisha lover, then this place definitely needs to get on your list. View located at Dusit Thani Dubai offers not one, not two, but three different styles of shisha on their menu. While the flavors remain same, it’s the presentation of the shisha which makes it stand out from the others.

* Razor Shisha – the most basic of the three, this comes in a classic design
* Shifter Shisha – for those who like a little adventure, this one features a glass design and an Arabesque shape
* Gravity Shisha (pictured) – perfect for all out indulgence, this style of shisha features a decorative transparent bowl that sits atop a stand. A tube that is topped with charcoal passes that lovely smoke to the bowl giving it an almost mystical crystal ball appeal .

Our flavor mix for the evening was Pan Masala with Mint, but you can choose from any of their 10+ flavors or mix and match them according to your liking.

Burrata with Olive Bread

Have I told you how much I love Burrata? Let’s just say there hasn’t been a single occasion where I’ve come across burrata on the menu and not ordered it.
But this intense love for burrata also makes me a little finicky about how dense the texture, how smooth the taste and ultimately how much creaminess the cheese possesses in its layers.

Luckily for me, the burrata at View by Dusit had all these boxes ticked right. Served over a basil and balsamic dressing, dotted with toasted pine nuts, this generous blob of burrata came side by side with an equally big whole roast tomato and two pieces of crusty grilled olive bread.
While burrata is absolutely delicious on its own, the olive bread perfectly complememted the cheese by balancing its creaminess and giving it a crunchy bite.

Shrimps with Linguini

Did someone say Linguini & Shrimps?
Pasta with shrimps is like a match made in heaven. I’ve tried so many versions of this combination and they’ve all managed to put a smile on my face.
This garlic and chili linguini with prawns comes cooked in a beautiful tomato reduction. The part sweet part sour tomatoes blend in really well with the juicy flavor of shrimps.

Shaved grana padano cheese and basil leaves add that Italian touch with a color diffusion, while the garlic bread pieces on the side balance the saucy pasta with a crunchy bite.
I would have liked the sauce a little more spicy though, especially with chili in its name, you’d expect a little kick out of it which was missing.

Truffle & Parmesan Fries

Tag that one friend (or more) who loves truffle fries!
These Truffle and Parmesan Fries at View by Dusit take the exquisite ingredient up a notch by treating diners to a side of truffle infused mayo.
That’s definitely a lot of earthy spuds-y flavors in every bite!

Crispy and aromatic with a slight touch of cheesiness, the fries were so good, I would go back to @dusitthanidubai just for these!

Crispy Buttermilk Fried Chicken Burger

I have always love buttermilk fried chicken. It’s very close to my heart for the most simplest of reasons – the batter, the crispiness, the fact that it is fried chicken! When I saw this item on the menu, there was no looking back (even though the Wagyu gave tough competition).

This one came with loads of buttermilk fried chicken, slathered with sriracha mayo and a carrot mango slaw. The mango pieces, which I earlier thought would be yellow bell peppers, were quite the surprise element. The chicken however didn’t seem all the crispy as it should have been. Next time, I will probably go with the Wagyu option.

Drinks

From day to evening!
Swipe left and tell me which one do you prefer – Peach or Strawberry? Cocktails aren’t really a part of the View by Dusit menu, so I just left it to their staff to create something sweet and fruity for me.

The first one was a peachy blend with a hint of citrus notes; light flavors apparent in its smooth hues.

The second one was a strawberry and orange concoction offering a little strong kick, much like is deep red tone.

While I can’t possibly pick a favorite among the two (both were great), I will most likely request for something passion fruit based on my next visit to heat up (or cool down?) the competition.

Chocolate Duo Cheesecake

This one was a no frills, easy peasy cheesecake that combined one layer of chocolate and one layer of cream cheese. Dense textured and not too sweet it was a good end to our evening at View by Dusit.
