Grub Shack | Goan Restaurant Review by Dubai Blogger Rashida

Grub Shack | Dubai Healthcare City

Everything from Bombay to Goa with a hint of Indo-Chinese, Grub Shack has got something to tickle everyone’s palate. It’s certainly one of those restaurants you’ll keep wanting to go back to for the food, hospitality and shack vibes! Although we have visited Grub Shack a couple times before with friends (once for their special Hidden Gem menu during Dubai Food Fest). this time we were invited for a proper tasting and review and we couldn’t have been more glad to give their specials a try.

As soon as we arrived, we were greeted with a very friendly Goan style welcome from the staff and led to our seats. Since we arrived quite early, the place wasn’t completely packed, but thanks to their live music which would take place shortly, the place attracts a lot of crowds. And thankfully we weren’t here on a weekend, else we would definitely have to wait for a while before we could get ourselves an empty table.

The staff introduced us to the menu and told us all about the specials and dishes that are a must must try. Very quickly we placed our order based on her recommendations and awaited for the food to arrive. Our drinks arrived shortly. My friend ordered a Passion Fruit Explosion which was a sweet concoction of passion fruit, while I went for the Rangeela Cart which featured sample shots of 6 of their bestsellers – Green Apple Martini, Strawberry Margarita, Virgin Pinacolada, Mango & Chilli, Watermelon & Basil, and Blue Lagoon Mint.

Our first dish on the list was from the GS Special Platter – Gemma’s Double Dragon King Prawns. These arrived in full style! With a smoking center and hot prawns tossed in their secret dragon sauce all around, this dish was a total delight. I loved the king prawns for their spicy flavor and the capsicums on the side.

Next came in the Butter Chicken. Now let me tell you, They don’t call it the #bestbutterchickenindubai for no reason. The taste is simply out of this world, and not at all sweet (which I honestly hate about most butter chickens). This one is different, something you won’t regret ordering and something you won’t forget for a long time. In fact, it is one of those few dishes that’ll keep you going back to Grub Shack. Our GS Special Chicken Biryani was next. This evergreen classic too has received the title of #top5biryaniindubai and rightly so. The spices are perfect and so is the rice, making it just the go-to order for biryani lovers. And of course, we couldn’t ignore Mr. Lancy’s suggestions to try out one of their Chinese dishes too, and this time we opted for Burnt Garlic & Chilli Noodles with Chicken. The wok fried egg noodles drenched in a garlicky flavor were great. I am a big fan of Chinese styled noodles and I loved these.

For desserts, we tried out plain Kulfi from the Kulfilicious kiosk that’s located within Grub Shack, but what really took the cake was the Smokin’ Masala Infused Chai that was served on a special smoky base in a double glass walled cup bearing the exact flavor and texture you would expect from a regular karak. This was certainly a showstopper.

#RashidaReviews

My favorites at Grub Shack included Gemma’s Double Dragon King Prawns, GS Special Chicken Biryani and Smokin’ Masala Chai. I was a bit disappointed that we didn’t get to try any Goan specialties, and the fact that all the dishes were brought at the same time. There could have been more spacing in between the starters and mains.
