Status Kitchen | Mirdif Restaurant Review by Dubai Blogger Rashida

Status Kitchen | Mirdif

Fusion might not be the key here, but presentation sure is. The home grown Status Kitchen in Mirdif boasts of an absolutely contemporary menu serving some really innovative grub options that combine distinct dishes onto one creative plate. The restaurant itself is very tiny, comprising of a large kitchen and just 3 barstools for seating, but their main fuel is deliveries and take-aways, and more often than not, you’ll find the area outside the restaurant filled with a line-up of cars waiting to get their hands on some of this really good stuff.

But what is this really good stuff that we tried? Read on to find out.

Luckily we landed up at a time when the restaurant wasn’t too busy (early evening), and were told we would be served a few signature dishes from the menu. Little did we know what few meant in their lingo, because by the end of it, we were honestly so stuffed, we actually had to pack up most of the half-eaten items which ran for lunch and dinner for both, me and my plus one.

We started with two bestselling drinks from their menu – the iconic Pinacolada and a Mixed Berry Mojito. Iconic because, well the pinacolada is served in an actual pineapple. Now how often have you seen that? I have tried the pinacolada here before (~2 years back), but this time around it seemed extra creamy and quite filling. I don’t remember too well, but I guess their earlier version had only pineapple juice, but this improved one features both pineapple juice and coconut cream. And you know my relation with coconuts right?! The mixed berry mojito was truly refreshing. All those forest berries muddled with mint and soda is always always a good choice.

Our first of many many items were the Macaroni Balls. Fried crisp and filled with cheesy goodness, these made for a filling item right at the start. Next up were the Status Special Fries that packed a punch with their overload of cheesy goodness, jalapenos and crispy onions. The last one in the list of Round 1 were the best, and my favourite, Dynamite Shrimps. I have always loved this dish wherever I’ve had it, and Status does it nothing less than the others. A definite must have for shrimp lovers, this dish is also available in a chicken variant for those of you who prefer clucks.

Round 2 started off with Rainbow Sliders that included one of each – red- grilled chicken, black- shrimp and green- beef. I honestly loved the shrimp one most, and the beef and chicken tied at a close second. But those were not the only burgers we were having that day, because soon enough we were presented with much bigger Pizza Burger and Jucy Lucy Burger. The former was topped with pepperoni and filled with layers of caramelized onions, cheese, tomatoes and a beef patty. The latter, also with a beef patty was filled with juicy molten cheese all over and layered with lettuce for that extra freshness. Both these burgers scored high on my taste scale. It wasn’t all burgers though. We had our fair share of travelling from the USA to Italy with a final pasta dish. The fettucine pasta tossed in creamy Alfredo sauce with chicken and bacon bits, and topped with parmesan was one of my favorites from their menu. I would love to go back and try some more of this.

Wait, it isn’t over. Status Kitchen is known for its desserts. Right from their pancakes and milk cakes, to waffles, crepes and everything in between, you will be crazy to have a sweet tooth and not have tried this restaurant yet. The best part about this place is that everything can be packed, so you don’t really have to worry about desserts needing to be eaten right away. Coming to what we ordered, well we honestly asked for one milk cake, but to our surprise we were offered two. To think about it, if we were really going to have two desserts, I would have preferred one milk cake and one waffle or pancake, but anyway, we ended up trying the very unique Black Ink Milk Cake and the creative Red Velvet Milk Cake. To be very honest, I have had creamier and denser milk cakes before, but the sheer flavors and colors of these milk cakes make them quite a good try. The black ink milk cake, topped with blueberries was the better of the two, but left our tongues and lips looking purple! Next time I might go for the classic milk cake, if not some other dessert from their menu.

Overall, I loved the variety that Status Kitchen offers, but if you don’t have a car and don’t live within their delivery radius, you might find it a little challenging to a) get to the place, and b) find a spot to eat your food. Try their dynamite shrimps or chicken, fries, burgers and pasta. And please please try atleast 2 or 3 different desserts to get a good idea of the variety they offer.
