Last week after one of the days at work, I visited the much talked about restaurant Epitome, located within Aloft Deira City Centre. A fusion of Roman and Greek, their interiors bring together bright colors and bold textures along with statement pieces, like their statues and murals that go hand-in-hand with eclectic metal accents. They’ve also got spectacular terrace seating with hand-painted murals and views of the Dubai skyline. The patterns and use of colors in their furniture are quite wow-worthy, and also features the cafe-style statement chairs which are such a big trend these days.

For drinks, we went in for trio tropical which was a mix of mango pineapple and coconut water along with their signature Epitome cooler which brought together basil mint and pineapple.

Our first starter was Ras Malai ki chaat which featured sweet milk sponges topped with golden saffron curd and cherries, served alongside leafy greens, carrots and beetroot threads. A little on the sweet side, this starter would pair well if you’re alternating it with a savory dish. Next in our starters were Hoison chilli wontons, that were crispy fried and tossed in a honey chilli sauce. Bringing a really good balance of spicy, sweet and savory flavors, paired with that slight crunch, these were the perfect young to the Ras Malai’s yang.

For mains, we went with the elephant garlic and basil sticky rice which was wok-fried with finely chopped assorted veggies and topped with burnt garlic and basil leaves. At first, it came across as a mushy version of Manchurian dumplings, but as the flavors began to pop out we were welcomed by the garlicky goodness. Of course, we couldn’t resist ordering an Indian main and for that, we went with Dilli styled nikka choley bhature that came topped with amchoori potatoes and paired with chilli carrot pickle and onions on the side. My favorite from the evening, the choley with potatoes in it was a combination that took this dish to the next level. Considering the portion of the choley, I do think they should give 4 bhatures instead of 2 as a part of this dish.

Next, it was time for desserts and we started with Gulab e Godiva. A Godiva chocolate brownie stuffed with a Gulab Jamun in the centre and topped with vanilla ice cream, this dish was quite a fusion laden item. The vanilla ice cream was a little too sweet for my liking and paired with the Gulab Jamun it made the dish overpowering sweet, but all in all, it was a good concept. The next dessert, not very different from the previous one, was the bomb chocolate soufflé which featured a classic molten chocolate cake topped with vanilla ice cream and cherry compote. The chocolate soufflé with all that melted gooey chocolate goodness inside was simply perfect. Again the ice cream was a little sweet but it went well with the dense cake. Like all molten chocolate cakes, this dessert takes a little while to prepare and arrive which means it is made fresh.

Did you know? Epitome is the first of its kind vegan and vegetarian licensed cocktail bar and restaurant in Dubai. They have a ladies night too and the place is buzzing with people over the weekend. Make sure you dress to impress and remember this venue is only for ages 21 and over.

Epitome has got a good selection of fusion and Indian inspired dishes which spans across finger food and proper carby mains. Their choley bhature is a must must try.

We visited Hitchki at Mirdif City Centre for Iftar and tried their Royal Iftar thali for AED 140. The portions were amazing and we were glad the staff told us we were not obliged to order one thali per person, but could rather share it and order any of the dishes from the thali at ala carte prices if we wanted to later.

From the thali, we loved the truffle labneh, haleem, mutton samosas and chicken cutlets.

My favourites were the mutton kabuli biryani and chicken korma. I would have definitely loved a little more of the korma along with some bread but we were too full with the variety on the thali.
The ambience of the restaurant is lovely and I would certainly want to go back to try out more of their dishes.

Hunger pangs on a Thursday evening led me to discover this hidden gem in Barsha.

Designed like a pit stop, but to fuel up your hunger, the quaint Stopover Restaurant features a grand fueling booth at the entrance along with diner styled seating, open kitchen and a cozy book corner.

They serve a unique fusion of Asian, Arabic and American favorites – all customized with their incredible in-house sauces.

We tried the Mexican Shawarma, Grilled Chicken Burger and Chicken Kathi Roll along with some Karak tea and it’s honestly hard to pick which one I liked the most. (It was the Shawarma)

If you’re in or around Barsha, do give this place a try and let me know which one was your favorite from their menu.

Stopover is a great option for office goers and lunch seekers in the area. Offering so many different varieties, it has the potential to turn into a regular go to place. Evenings are quieter in the restaurant, but their delivery services should be able to keep hunger pangs at bay.

Micro plates, but macro flavor. This is what you’ll get at the newest dining addition at The Dubai Mall Fashion Avenue – Micro. Developed under the wing of the famous Malaysian brand Pappa Roti, Micro adds subtle fusion to Asian classics, and presents them in portions that are just right to keep you satisfied, at the same time leaving enough space to try another dish or two.

We decided to head over to The Dubai Mall on a Thursday evening (I know, so brave), and spotted Micro boldly flaunting it’s outdoor seating in the midst of the busy mall, but balanced with a neatly tucked in indoor space. I loved the minimalist, yet striking appeal of the restaurant, which combined beautifully to make their presence felt, but not in a subtle way. The location and outwardly appeal of the restaurant sure caught the attention of mall walkers and diners looking for options.

As soon as we were seated, we were greeted by restaurant manager Vishal, who gave us a little insight into his F&B experience, and explained the concept of the restaurant along with the kind of food they offer and their bestselling plates. Soon enough, we found ourselves confused between what to order and what to skip, because everything, and I repeat, EVERYTHING looked so tempting and totally worth a try. The good part though is their portions were not overwhelming, which allowed us to try a variety of dishes without feeling too full or worse guilty!

We went in with the recommendations from the staff and started our dinner with truffle and chicken dumplings, crispy shrimp salad, chicken karaage bao and shrimp tempura maki rolls. If you know me well, then you already know I lovvvved the dumplings for all that truffle. They were steamed and then lightly pan-fried bringing the best of both worlds, and more importantly, served over a layer of creamy truffle sauce. Yes, I licked the plate clean after eating 75% of the dumplings! The crispy shrimp salad was, simply put, Micro’s version of dynamite shrimps, but in no way were they just plain or simple. Tossed in a spicy tangy sauce, the shrimps were crispy on the outside and featured a succulent tender core making them absolutely blissful. My only recommendation here would be to eat these quick, because once they get cold and a little soggy, the experience might not be the same.

I don’t know why, but of late I’ve developed a new found love for chicken karaage. Whenever and wherever I see karaage on the menu, I know I want it on my plate. I could blame it on Neha’s (@astoryoffood) tempting stories about her own chicken karaage (which I haven’t got the pleasure of trying yet), but well, currently karaage is bae, and with the way it’s going, I am guessing it will stay that way for long. So then, when I saw the chicken karaage bun on the menu, I knew I had to have it. If you like baos and sliders and chicken, then you NEED TO TRY THIS. That melange of the soft bao and the crispy spicy karaage chicken was more perfect than any other chicken sandwich I could’ve asked for. The bao bun especially, was so soft, so thank God I had my lipstick transferred all over it with the first bite, so now I could safely excuse myself from sharing it with my plus one.

The maki rolls were brilliant. They had three options for maki rolls on the menu – one of which was raw fish and two which came with cooked meat – shrimp or chicken. We went with the cooked shrimp tempura rolls. I honestly love sushi that doesn’t taste too much like sushi – in the sense that it has a little of everything but no overpowering flavors. This one was just like that. I did my bit with the wasabi and happily enjoyed my share of 2 of the 4 maki rolls.

We paired our starters with a couple of mocktails from their list of 7 remarkable concoctions. Honestly, it’s sort of my goal now to try them all, but as for this visit we settled on Singapore Sunrise and Berries Hibiscus. While the former was a sweet, sour and sunny mix of passion fruit, oranges, mandarin and pineapple, the latter had mixed berries muddled with fresh mint, lemon and hibiscus.

Next up for the mains, we put our blind faith in the staff’s recommended plates and were beyond delighted with what was brought to our table. From the two mains we ordered, my favorite was the chicken laksa curry with jasmine rice. That combination was simply WOW. A mix of creamy, spicy, warm and comforting flavors, this Singaporean dish went just right with the rice, and if I wasn’t already full from all the starters we had, I would like finished it all by myself. My plus one was more than happy with our second main – char siu glazed short ribs. Very well done, the meat in these short ribs was fall off the bone tender and the glaze added so much drama in terms of flavor.

We were obviously not going to leave without dessert, but this time, for a change, we also decided to order some hot beverages to go with it. The dessert we chose was my first and obvious pick – non-sticky rice with mango sorbet. I ordered this one for it had coconut crumble as one of the main ingredients paired with vanilla bean rice and topped with a mango gelato. The rice tasted almost like a coconut and vanilla kheer – not too sweet, but supremely creamy, cool and refreshing.

Our hot drinks to go with the dessert included a pappa milk tea, which was very much like a normal milk tea, sans the strength of a karak; and a classic café latte which to my surprise came with a kitty latte art.

I’ll be going back to this restaurant soon to try their breakfast options, so keep an eye out for that.

Honestly, there is still so much left to try, and I know I will be going back soon. But from everything we tried, I highly recommend the chicken karaage bun, laksa curry, crispy shrimps, truffle chicken dumplings and their mocktails.

How do you feel about sushi? Love it, hate it, can’t stand it? To be honest, I’m not a very big fan of sushi, but when it comes to the fusion creations by Moshi, I’m always game!

I love how they put in so much effort and creativity into every plate, so much so, that the food looks too good to eat. We decided to make a quick visit to Moshi’s Barsha branch early this week, and left in awe of their classic creations. Read on to find out everything we tried and what my favorites are.

Since we were invited for a review, ours was a fixed Bloggers Menu that covered a bi variety of their offerings. We started with Dynamite Popcorn Shrimps, Dynamite Popcorn Mushrooms and edamame.

The shrimps have always always been my favorite, and these ones at Moshi were really well done. The mushrooms were a veggie friendly replica of the shrimps. The healthier edamame was a great munching option while we waited for our sushi rolls to arrive. I’ve tried edamame at a few places, and very few manage to get it right. I liked how the edamame at Moshi was steaming hot when it arrived and had a good dusting of spices to add to the moreish flavor of beans.

Our drinks arrived shortly after. I had picked a strawberry mojito, while my plus one went with the Oreo milkshake. I almost never have milkshakes while dining because I believe they are a meal in themselves, but this one was lighter than normal and felt quite refreshing. The mojito was perfect, but I missed the light bulb glass they had served this drink in during my previous review at the Oud Metha outlet, back in 2016!

In terms of maki rolls, we tried not 1 or 2 or 3 or even 4, but 5 different varieties. And each variety stood out with a distinct flavor. My favorite among these were the Cheesy Chips Oman Rolls. Right from the creamy cheese, to gritty rice to crunchy chips, these vegetarian rolls offer a burst of different textures in every bite. The Flamin’ Asparagus Cheetos had its own flavor twist, but I feel it could have been slightly spicier. The Volcano Maki and Dynamite Rolls were another delight featuring shrimps – the former topped with a spicy creamy sauce, and the latter with capelin roe. To end the soiree, we had the Emperor rolls which was fair in taste, but my least favorite option.

Since the name Moshi is made up of two components – Momos and Sushi, the next part of our meal had us trying 16 pieces of momos! Yes, 16 – which were divided into two pan fried and two steamed pieces of each – veggie mix momos, original chicken momos, cottage cheese and spinach momos and prawn momos. I lovveeeedd the veggie mix momos. Filled with potatoes and spices, they almost tasted like a samosa. The original chicken was quite good too. The paneer momos and prawn momos were fairly nice, but I felt the paneer to be a little out of place when it comes to the flavor balance.

The desserts at Moshi are presented in line with their primary offering, and very aptly named after the rolls. From the Lotus Overload and Nutella Maki that we tried, the nutella ones were my favorite, but the lotus ones were really comforting too.

Have you tried Moshi yet? Which is your favorite item from their menu?

The sushi rolls at Moshi have always been a highlight of my visit to the restaurant. I love their creative fusion, and veggie options. I missed having their hot dog maki and chicken based rolls, but I will definitely be going back for those. I loved loved loved the cheesy chips oman rolls and dynamite shrimps.

Fusion might not be the key here, but presentation sure is. The home grown Status Kitchen in Mirdif boasts of an absolutely contemporary menu serving some really innovative grub options that combine distinct dishes onto one creative plate. The restaurant itself is very tiny, comprising of a large kitchen and just 3 barstools for seating, but their main fuel is deliveries and take-aways, and more often than not, you’ll find the area outside the restaurant filled with a line-up of cars waiting to get their hands on some of this really good stuff.

But what is this really good stuff that we tried? Read on to find out.

Luckily we landed up at a time when the restaurant wasn’t too busy (early evening), and were told we would be served a few signature dishes from the menu. Little did we know what few meant in their lingo, because by the end of it, we were honestly so stuffed, we actually had to pack up most of the half-eaten items which ran for lunch and dinner for both, me and my plus one.

We started with two bestselling drinks from their menu – the iconic Pinacolada and a Mixed Berry Mojito. Iconic because, well the pinacolada is served in an actual pineapple. Now how often have you seen that? I have tried the pinacolada here before (~2 years back), but this time around it seemed extra creamy and quite filling. I don’t remember too well, but I guess their earlier version had only pineapple juice, but this improved one features both pineapple juice and coconut cream. And you know my relation with coconuts right?! The mixed berry mojito was truly refreshing. All those forest berries muddled with mint and soda is always always a good choice.

Our first of many many items were the Macaroni Balls. Fried crisp and filled with cheesy goodness, these made for a filling item right at the start. Next up were the Status Special Fries that packed a punch with their overload of cheesy goodness, jalapenos and crispy onions. The last one in the list of Round 1 were the best, and my favourite, Dynamite Shrimps. I have always loved this dish wherever I’ve had it, and Status does it nothing less than the others. A definite must have for shrimp lovers, this dish is also available in a chicken variant for those of you who prefer clucks.

Round 2 started off with Rainbow Sliders that included one of each – red- grilled chicken, black- shrimp and green- beef. I honestly loved the shrimp one most, and the beef and chicken tied at a close second. But those were not the only burgers we were having that day, because soon enough we were presented with much bigger Pizza Burger and Jucy Lucy Burger. The former was topped with pepperoni and filled with layers of caramelized onions, cheese, tomatoes and a beef patty. The latter, also with a beef patty was filled with juicy molten cheese all over and layered with lettuce for that extra freshness. Both these burgers scored high on my taste scale. It wasn’t all burgers though. We had our fair share of travelling from the USA to Italy with a final pasta dish. The fettucine pasta tossed in creamy Alfredo sauce with chicken and bacon bits, and topped with parmesan was one of my favorites from their menu. I would love to go back and try some more of this.

Wait, it isn’t over. Status Kitchen is known for its desserts. Right from their pancakes and milk cakes, to waffles, crepes and everything in between, you will be crazy to have a sweet tooth and not have tried this restaurant yet. The best part about this place is that everything can be packed, so you don’t really have to worry about desserts needing to be eaten right away. Coming to what we ordered, well we honestly asked for one milk cake, but to our surprise we were offered two. To think about it, if we were really going to have two desserts, I would have preferred one milk cake and one waffle or pancake, but anyway, we ended up trying the very unique Black Ink Milk Cake and the creative Red Velvet Milk Cake. To be very honest, I have had creamier and denser milk cakes before, but the sheer flavors and colors of these milk cakes make them quite a good try. The black ink milk cake, topped with blueberries was the better of the two, but left our tongues and lips looking purple! Next time I might go for the classic milk cake, if not some other dessert from their menu.

Overall, I loved the variety that Status Kitchen offers, but if you don’t have a car and don’t live within their delivery radius, you might find it a little challenging to a) get to the place, and b) find a spot to eat your food. Try their dynamite shrimps or chicken, fries, burgers and pasta. And please please try atleast 2 or 3 different desserts to get a good idea of the variety they offer.

I’ve been to this restaurant 3 times over the past 40 days, and it always, always impresses me more and more. This gorgeous place is A.E.R. Located at the plush Emirates Financial Towers in DIFC, the A.E.R. Lounge boasts of glam interiors, breezy outdoor seating and a swanky bar which is also the longest in Dubai.

Their menu spells fusion through and through, and it’s pretty evident from the taste and presentation how every food and drink item has so much thought and effort put into it. Scroll down for some gorgeous pictures and to know more about everything we tried at A.E.R.

We start with the gorgeous Mocking Bird and the classy Royal Sour. A sweet blend of strong flavors, the Mocking Bird brings together rose syrup with peach puree and lemon juice. There’s also a hint of turmeric root in the mix. And that presentation is simply wow! Quite a royal affair, the exquisite Royal Sour combines lime juice with saffron syrup and is topped with egg white foam. Don’t miss the dates on the side.

For our starters, we pick four dishes, that each stand out for their distinct flavors. First one is the AER Wellness which is a refreshingly healthy salad, thanks to the mix of romaine lettuce, endive, beetroot spirals, cucumber, orange pieces and quinoa. Moreover it is sprinkled with chickpeas and sunflower seeds, and drizzled with s salted maple butter dressing. Next is the Sicilian Arancini which is essentially tomato ragu based rice balls stuffed with cheese and mushrooms. These are incredibly creamy and melt-in-your-mouth. We also opt for the Bruschetta trio which features a selection of unique combinations, and is quite good for sharing, especially when everyone’s fond of one of these three toppings. While I am not particularly fond of tuna and green apple, the tomato caponata is fair, and I love the mushroom and cheese laden bruschetta. Our last starter, before we indulge in mains are the Meatballs. Made with beef mince and topped with salsa bravas, these meatballs are served with cheesy garlic bread, making them the ideal meat+carb bites with drinks.

For mains, I choose my favorite, while my plus one opts for his. Mine is a Wild Mushroom and Truffle Risotto. Oh my, oh my. If happy dreams could be classified as food items, this one would definitely be mine. Dotted with so many different mushroom varieties, this beauty is silky smooth, rich and very generous in terms of portion. My plus one’s Lamb Shank isn’t any less either. Juicy and fall-off-the-bone tender, the lamb in this dish is cooked to perfection. The addition of roast gravy makes it even more juicy and the polenta mash is a nice starchy alternative to the usual potato.

Despite being absolutely full, we feel it won’t be fair to ditch dessert, so we call for the Turtle Cheesecake. Cheesecakes are not my usual choice, but this one comes highly recommended by the staff. Built up on a chocolate walnut base, the cheesecake is topped with brown sugar caramel. As soon as the spoon touches the silky texture of the cake, it almost sinks in, while every single bite takes you to a sweet sweet land filled with cheese and caramel dreams.

What an experience! AER keeps impressing me more and more with every visit. This was the first time I had a proper full dinner and I loved every bit of it. We even ordered the iced shisha that came in the tall jar filled with ice cubes, making it the perfect accompaniment for their outdoor seating.

In terms of food, honestly, I loved everything except the tuna bruschetta, but that’s only because I am not a fan of tuna and bit into it without realizing. I am certain I will be making many many more visits to this place until I have tried every food and drink off their menu!

Among all other things, we Indians are really good at one thing – sprucing up international dishes with an Indianized twist. That’s exactly what we experienced at Little Italy. Thanks to the invite by Xpress Socially, we got to experience a plethora of fusion rich Italian and Mexican food at this pretty restaurant located in Karama. While the seating options are not too many, nor too little, what I really liked about this restaurant is how they have used really large mirrors to create an illusion of space. My plus one almost kept wondering if we could seat ourselves on the other side until I had to point out to him that it was just a mirror.

I don’t usually start a review with a negative comment, but the start of our experience was unfortunately slightly bumpy. I found the service to be quite low compared to the normal standards. We were initially told we would be given a set menu, which I obviously wanted more clarifications on, since it is totally unfair to expect bloggers to eat anything and everything what the restaurant thinks is right. The server told us he would be back after checking on the details of what was included in our meal, and well, 20 minutes passed without any update.

He finally came back, and to our surprise, he asked if we had placed our order, to which we had to remind him that we were waiting for him to give us more details! The miscommunication and delay in serving our food put me off a little, but that was balanced out by the food, which was fairly good in taste and presentation.

We started with their house mocktails, where I chose a passion fruit based drink and my plus one went with an apple based fruit punch. Both were pretty refreshing, but the temperatures inside the restaurant were quite low, which made it slightly difficult to sip on the chilled drinks.

For food, we were first presented with a very creamy and comforting Tomato Soup, dotted with croutons, which really helped combat the chilly interiors of the restaurant. Next we were brought Masala Garlic Bread and Bruschetta. Although the masala garlic bread felt pretty much like normal cheese garlic bread, I loved the fact that it was soft and crispy in the right places. The bruschetta topped with the freshest diced tomatoes was quite good too.

Then came in the Mexican side of things in the form of Nachos and Corn Cheese Balls. From everything we tried, the nachos had the maximum element of fusion. The tortilla chips were replaced by khakda which made the refried beans almost look like rajma. Moreover the cheese sauce was strikingly bright yellow – giving it a very haldi look. The corn cheese balls on the other hand were quite soft and gooey, but the corn was pretty sparse inside.

For mains, we went with the usual combination of pasta and pizza. Both these dishes were remarkably good and we even got them packed for next day. The creamy Barbaresca pasta came with penne tossed in cheese sauce with lots of herbs and veggies. We initially wanted something with mushrooms (and truffle oil), so the server offered to replace the broccoli in this pasta with mushrooms for us. The pizza was a total Indian styled flatbread. Named The Indian, this one came topped with lots of capsicums and onions on a tomato and mozzarella base and was really light too.

For desserts, we wanted to go with their Tres Leches cake, but due to its unavailability, we went with the Sizzling Brownie. The combination of hot brownie with sizzling chocolate sauce and cold vanilla ice cream was great. Although the brownie could’ve been slightly dense in terms of crumbiness, overall it fared well.

Apart from the slight hiccup in service, I loved most of my experience at Little Italy. In terms of food, I definitely felt the Italian options were much better than Mexican. I would want to go back and try their different pasta and wood fired pizzas as they have plenty of variety in these.

Highlighting the concept of a global tapas bar, A Cappella takes diners on a world tour of flavors with its small bites, uniquely creative dishes and gorgeous drinks. From the house of Passion F&B who’ve come up with brilliant restaurants like Tresind and Carnival by Tresind, A Cappella offers a fresh new take for night scene lovers and brings in surprisingly affordable fare to The Pointe Palm.

The passport menu features tapas styled food options from eight different countries, with more to be added in the coming few months and they’re a great mix of small bites, big plates and desserts. The dining area in A Cappella is built around a large open kitchen that houses both the cooking area and the bar. Featuring counter seating all around, this is a great attempt at creating an interactive dining experience.

We start with Old Fashioned and To The Pointe cocktails. While the former is a classic drink, the latter is picturesque drink made with passion fruit, cranberry and rosemary. We then move to Pani Puri Champenoise from the Indian menu. – a classic fusion dish, which IMHO is really a must have. We love the presentation, love the puri filling and love the spicy water. Then we are brought a couple of Lamb Chops from the Japanese menu. With so much flavor, the tandoori lamb chops marinated in Japanese shichimi soy are absolutely tender and served with miso dip on the side. After touring the East, we jump to the West with Cheese Burgers from the American menu. These slider sized pieces of deliciousness come with a juicy beef patty, mushroom ketchup and slim crispy stick fries. So good, you’ll want to go for a second portion too. For the veggies, you don’t have to sit out the sliders for there’s an Aloo Tikki option on the Indian menu that fits the bill just right. The crispy tikki sliders are equally tasty and we especially love the strong tamarind sauce and the lovely sweet sour flavor it adds to the mix.

It’s time for the second round of cocktails, and this time we coincidentally choose two similar looking drinks. I have a Sour Pour made with yuzu syrup and orange bitters, while my plus one goes for Barrelman featuring grapefruit syrup and lemon. This we have along with Tandoori Chicken from the Indian menu which is a truly remarkable dish. Very very juicy, very tender and very tasty, the chicken is every tandoori lovers dream. The baby chicken is cooked so perfect, it just melts in our mouth. Our bigger plate includes Crab Kari which comes with a side of porotta and steamed rice. Cooked Malay style, it is dotted with de-shelled mud crab meat and the gravy pairs up really well with both the carb options. Another bigger plate from the American menu is Mac n’ Cheese. I realize I have never loved mac n’ cheese so much before this one. The lobster meat and truffle infused sauce go so well with the pasta, this is definitely the dish I know I will be going back for.

One more round of drinks gives me the chance to try Chef’s Favorite made with raspberry marmalade, rhubarb apple and cucumber bitter. This one comes with a veggie taco as a side. And then there’s another Sour Pour made with hibiscus syrup for my plus one. For dessert, our first installment is the Italian Tiramisu. A really good twist on the classic, this tiramisu is a delight. The ice cream along with the chocolate swirl on top makes all the difference. And for the grand finale, we indulge in the American Chocolate Sphere. I may not be a dessert person, but give me brownies and I’m sold. With chunks of pecan brownie and a rich chocolate sauce, this sphere is an incredible dessert and certainly a must have.

So good in so many ways, this place is a must must visit. Whether you love a fun night out, fusion food, drinks or sheesha, you can get everything in one place paired with gorgeous views of Atlantis and the Palm. My favorite food items from everything we tried included the pani puri, cheese burgers, crab curry and lobster mac n’ cheese. The chocolate sphere was to die for.

When comfort food combines with fusion, it creates such a perfect companionship, it’s one that urges you to make repeated visits to that place. Such is the effect of the food at Old Castello. This legacy Jumeirah spot has seen years of love and continued support from its patrons, and although the management has changed hands over time, the restaurant continues to offer the best in unparalleled hospitality attracting people of all ages, and from different backgrounds.

We were invited to dine at the restaurant on a Wednesday night, which apart from being a great midweek night out, also coincided with their weekly Bingo Nights hosted by famous Zee TV anchor Priya Jethani. With a grand prize of a 5-star luxury staycation, this was sure to get the numbers ticking (pun intended).

As soon as we arrived, we were offered some shisha and we decided to go with Paan Rasna. The restaurant is well-known for its shisha, and after looking at the variety of flavors + the great quality, we knew why. While we waited for the chef to prepare his specials planned for us, we were brought a welcome starter (amuse bouche) of a crispy puff. Served over dry ice smoke, this pastry was filled with creamy yogurt, and melted in our mouths in one single bite.

Along with the puffs, we were also treated to some smoky drinks. The Wild Berry Mojitos, featuring strawberries and raspberries muddled with lime and mint were served in a shiny copper glass with a tad bit of dry ice drama.

Soup and salads came in next. The Tomato Basil soup, IMHO, was a real winner. Very creamy, with a hint of basil flavors, this soup was served with a side of garlicky croutons that offered a good crunch to balance out the smooth texture. Their Fattoush Salad offered a fusion of sorts, thanks to the sumac spice dusting on top. Another one from their fusion list, the Chilli Lotus featured fried lotus stems served over a bed of wok fried capsicums and onions along with chatpata ragda peas. I wasn’t too sure how I would feel about the lotus dish, but to my surprise I ended up loving it for its spicy chaat-styled flavors.

We assumed these dishes were the starters and mains would be up next, but wait, we still had non-vegetarian starters to sample. For this we were offered Chicken Gulnar Kabab and Izmir Kebab. The former came with tandoori marinated chunks of boneless chicken thighs skewered and presented espetada style, while the latter was a Turkish delicacy of minced meat mixed with cheese and bell peppers. Both these grills were served with condiments and sauces on the side.

Side by side with the Bingo games, ticking the numbers off our tickets, we also indulged in some delicious chef recommended mains. The Lentil & Paneer Donut was quite the charmer. Almost like a medu wada lookalike, albeit filled with cottage cheese, these rich fritters were placed over a bed of salan gravy. We enjoyed this along with a portion of zaatar garlic naan. The naan was great, and would make a fine choice even as is. The Dal Dairy Daily, as they call it at Old Castello, was a traditional slow cooked black lentil preparation topped with butter and cream. And of course, there was the Larhmeen Chicken Biryani. Absolutely aromatic and flavorful, this had everything you would expect from a good biryani. Recommeded! One of the most creative mains was the Crab with Cilantro Pesto. Featuring crispy soft shell crab served over a bed of barley cooked in pesto, this dish was a creamy dream.

I saw something on the dessert menu that read coconut jiggery ice cream and I was hoping they would bring that for us, but I guess that one’s for my next visit. The dessert we were offered was a chef’s specialty – Honey Comb Chocolate Mousse. Honestly quite light than what I had expected, this dessert came with gram flour sand and a whipped airy mousse along with a chocolate flower pot. Very very impressive.

While we didn’t quite win any of the Bingo prizes, the food at Old Castello sure won our hearts.

This place has so much to offer, it is difficult to get the most out of everything in one evening. I love their sheesha flavors and the food options are plenty and amazing. We loved the chicken kebab,  lotus stems, chicken biryani and crab.
